The Lady Red Devils continued their court dominance last week with a win over district rival Chiefland in three straight games 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23 on Oct. 1. before falling to non district opponent Meadowbrooke on Oct. 7. Williston is still tied for first place in the district with Union County who they will face on their home court on Oct. 10. Matches are set to start with the JV playing at 5:30 and varsity immediately afterward scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start time.

Williston and Union County have only one district loss each and with tonight’s games outcome a stand alone district leader will emerge.

Williston won the first match against Union County on Sept. 5 and the Lady Red Devils look to reclaim that victory tonight. Williston has maintained a serve percentage of over 85 percent this season and will rely on good serve/receive percentage in this match as well to ensure a victory and first place status.

The offense will rely upon continued success by Morgan Vanasco, Chelsea Dola and Shabree Porter and defensive digs and volley saves by Darby Battle and Taylor Whilden. Battle leads the team in digs with 53 so far this season.

Williston has seemed to have an advantage in each of its matches thus far when the game depicts multiple volley plays. This is much in part to communication on the court and team work. Combined with a great work ethic and a never quit attitude Williston has thus far given fans a great season and look forward to gaining a first place ranking in the district this week.

There are only four matches left in the regular season before the district tournament which will be held in Cross City beginning on Oct. 21. Times for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
