 Red Devils Girls’ Basketball falls short

 in Crystal River


The Lady Devils traveled to Crystal River on Monday night and were defeated 54-38.  This moves their record to 1-2 with their win over Dunnellon on Friday night.

Trailing 18-5 at the end of the first quarter, the Devils fell further behind 26-10 at the half.  The third quarter ended 38-19 before the final at 54-38. Turnovers were a key in the loss as the Devils had 38.

Hannah Coleman led all scorers with 11 points, Shabree Porter and Deonna Hamilton each had four steals to lead the Devils.  Other scorers went as follows: Hannah Coleman 11, Shabree Porter, Lakeria Wright, and Jill Porter 9, Brianna Monroe 1.

The Girls’ varsity Basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Forrest in the home opener on Tuesday night. Kim Simms hit her only basket with 2 seconds left to gives Forrest a 45-44 win. Shabree Porter seconds earlier had given the Red Devils a one point lead with a driving layup. Nineteen for 41 free throw shooting was what allowed Forrest to stay in the game as the Devils were chilly from the line.

Trailing 14-6 at the quarter, then 24-17 at half the Red Devils cut the lead to 32-31 concluding the third before losing on the last shot. Jill Edwards led the Devils in scoring with 18, Shabree Porter added 11, Hannah Coleman, Precious Williams 5, Deonna Hamilton 3, and Morgan Vanesco had 2. Shabree Porter led the team with 9 rebounds, Jill Edwards had 4 steals, and Deonna Hamilton led the team with 3 assists.


Wright sinks the game winner


Lakeria Wright sank a 10- foot shot from the corner to aide the Red Devils Girls’ Basketball team in defeating Trinity Catholic 42-40.  The home win gives the Devils a 2-3 record going into the Thanksgiving break.  Hannah Coleman led all scorers with 11 points, Jill Edwards 10, Lakeria Wright 9,Danielle Dallas 7, Brianna Monroe 3, and Deonna Hamilton 1.  At the first quarter the Devils led 10-6, 20-17 at half, Trinity Catholic took the lead 30-24 after 3 before the Red Devils came back to take the lead.  The Devils had the ball with 20 seconds with the score tied 40-40 when Lakeria Wright took a pass  from Deonna Hamilton and drove the lane.  When her first shot missed Lakeria got her own rebound and hit the game winner.  Trinity Catholic hurried the ball down the court but Deonna Hamilton knocked the ball loose then Precious Williams and Deonna Hamilton double teamed the ball until the buzzer. 

Brianna Monroe had 8 rebounds, Jill Edwards 6, and Danielle Dallas had 5, Jill Edwards had 11 steals and Deonna Hamilton had 4.
