Lady Red Devils stop Lady Indians in the fourth quarter

The Williston Lady Red Devil basketball team hosted district foe Fort White Jan. 18. The Lady Indians took the first meeting before the holiday break by 19 points at Fort White. 

As the game got under way,  it looked like the Lady Indians were in for another win, as the Lady Red Devils turned the ball over 11 times in the first quarter and missed five of six free throws. The Lady Devils found themselves trailing the Lady Indians 15-5 as the first quarter ended.

The Lady Devils cut their turnovers to just 4 in the second quarter and hit 9 of 10 free throws as they began what appeared to be a come back. 

The Lady Devils cut the lead to just 3 points at 23-20 as the first half ended.

Both teams played the third quarter in a slow fashion as they seemed to be saving the best for the fourth quarter. The score was tied at 33-33 as the third quarter ended.

As the fourth quarter got underway, the Lady Devils took their first lead of the game as Shabree Porter put in a lay up and was fouled. Porter dropped in the free throw putting the Lady Devil up 43-42. The lead was short lived as Shatasha Robinson dropped in a 3-point basket lifting the Lady Indians up by two at 45-43. The teams exchanged baskets and the Lady Devils went up 49-48 on another Porter free throw. Two back to back steals by a tight Lady Devil defense netted the Lady Devils their biggest lead of the game with less than 30 seconds left. Leading 53-48 Porter got a third steal on the in bounds pass and dropped in another basket as the horn sounded ending the game with a Lady Red Devil win 55-48.

Freshman Jill Edwards ended the game with 17 points for the Lady Red Devils, while Porter a sophomore had 10 points. Hannah Coleman dropped in 9 points and freshman Danneille Dallas had 8 points for the Lady Red Devils. Shatasha Robinson led the Lady Indians with 20 points on the night.
