Lady Red Devils off to slow season start

 After opening their 2011-12 basketball season Nov. 16 at PK Yonge with a disappointing 68-17 loss to the Blue Wave, the Red Devils returned home on  Nov. 17 to take on district neighbor Newberry.
The Lady Panthers were coming off an earlier loss at Gainesville High by a slim 15-point margin.
The Lady Panthers were ready to find the winning track as they jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead over the Lady Red Devils and never looked back.
The Lady Panthers were led by Ambria Ruttledge with 16 points including two 3-point baskets in the Panthers 48-35 win.
The Panthers held their 11 point advantage at the end of the first half as they held a 23-12 lead over the Lady Red Devils.
The second half saw the Lady Red Devils make a run at the Panthers as Cinnamon Robinson hit a layup to cut the Panther lead to 39-33 with just under four minutes left in the game.
Following a quick time out called by the Lady Panthers, they slowed the game down, took off their press and pulled back to a 10 point lead off two back to back Red Devil turn overs.
Ericka Floyd led the Lady Red Devils in scoring with 18 points on some very aggressive play on offense. Robinson added 10 points and Angie Wilcox added 5 points including a big 3-point basket in the Lady Red Devils run.
In earlier JV action the Lady Red Devil junior varsity fell to the Lady Panthers 34-29. The Lady Devils were led in scoring by Shabree Porter with 10 points, and Allie Davis with 9 points. The game was tied at 12-12 at halftime but the Lady Devils committed 26 turn overs in the second half as they struggled to get the ball in bounds.
