The 2010 Williston Lady Red Devil Softball season is now officially over. And what a fantastic season the Lady Devils had.

Their overall 20-4 record led them to the District Championship, followed by the Region Championship, right to the State Final 4 and were the only public school represented in the State Final 4 play offs.

The Lady Devils went 7-1 in regular season district play in a very tough district. They went on to win the District 2 3A Championship. They moved on to the Region Games downing Crystal River, Trinity Catholic, and then Satellite Beach for the Region Championship.

The Lady Devils were defeated one game short of playing for the State Championship in the State Final 4 to the eventual State Champion Miami Gulliver Prep.

The Awards Dinner and Banquet was held Tuesday May 25, at the WMS Cafatorium.

The Junior Varsity players were first to be recognized as they received their awards from JV Coaches Carl Williams and Ebony Williams.

The 2010 Varsity Lady Devils were next up as Head Coach Billy Rodgers took the time to tell a quick story about each young lady he had coached as each player was introduced to those in attendance.

A special award was introduced to the audience in remembrance of Hubert “Ray” Williams, a long time supporter of Red Devil Softball, who died before the end of the season.

The plaque will be kept in the school trophy case with a new recipient added each year.

The first winner for 2010 was junior Crissy Rawls, the outstanding short stop and lead off hitter for the Lady Devils.

The awards followed a wonderful meal complete with a delicious cake featuring both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams.

The two senior members of this years team Kayla Thorrington and Taylor Acree were introduced together at the end of the team awards presentations.

“These two young ladies were the team leaders, each in their own way,” Rodgers said has he handed both their awards.
