Lady Indians outslug Red Devils

-A A +A

Thirty-nine runs crossed home plate April 10 before the Lady Indians took down Williston’s Lady Red Devils in a 21-18 win.

After the Red Devils scored two runs in the top of the first inning off a two RBI single by Jasilyn Williams, Chiefland’s Taylore Fuller led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run on a ball hit off the fence in the corner of the right field alley.

Mychayla Franklin collected another RBI for the Lady Indians to tie the game at 2-2 after one full inning of play.

After the Lady Red Devils took a 9-5 lead in the top of the third inning, the Lady Indians responded behind the bats of Fuller and Caitlyn Fuller, Franklin, Brittany Gilliam and Lauren Tiner, for a seven run third inning that lifted the Lady Indians to a 12-9 lead after three completed innings of play.

The Lady Red Devils were quick to respond in the top of the fourth inning as Akiria Strange cracked a two out RBI single followed by Summer Domiano’s RBI single. This was followed by Angie Wilcox tying the score at 12-12 with another single. Williams collected her third base hit of the game with a go-ahead RBI single, lifting the Red Devils to a 13-12 lead.

This lead was short lived as Taylore Fuller unloaded the bases with a triple and later scored, stealing home plate to put the Lady Indians up 16-13 after four innings.

After both teams had scored in each of the first four innings, neither team could plate a single run in the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Kaitlyn Bannon and Ashton Geiger both collected an RBI to pull the Red Devils to within one run at 16-15.

The Lady Indians were set to build on their one point lead as Tiner looped a lead off single. This was followed by a Taylore Fuller walk with no outs. Caitlyn Fuller then loaded the bases with a single.

Franklin then added to the Indians score with a two run double. Ashley Long continued the scoring with a two run double to the gap. The Lady Indians added five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 21-15 lead.

Coming to bat in the top of the seventh and final inning for the Lady Red Devils, Jimilla Robinson led off the inning with a single. Samantha Masseo followed with another single. Strange and Domaino both sent runners across the plate pulling the Lady Devils to within four runs. Angie Wilcox cut the Lady Indian lead to three with a RBI double.

The Lady Indian defense stopped the Lady Red Devils ending a game that went two and one half hours as the Lady Indians took the win 21-18.

The win avenged an earlier loss to the Red Devils just two weeks earlier.
