Johnson named outstanding social studies teacher

Anthony Johnson was recognized as one of Florida’s Outstanding Social Studies Teachers of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year.

Johnson is the recipient of the “Dr. Theron Trimble Florida Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award” -Elementary level for 2009.

This award is sponsored by the Florida Council for the Social Studies, a professional organization of Social Studies educators striving to maintain and enhance the importance of Social Studies in Florida education.

Johnson, a 2001 graduate of Williston High School, received a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education from the Bethune-Cookman University (2005) and is currently employed by the Volusia County School District as a 4th grade teacher at Horizon Elementary School.

He is currently completing (December 2009) a Master’s of Science degree in Reading Education from Nova Southeastern University.

He is the son of Alvin and Mimi Johnson, grandson of Mrs. Hattie Rowe (and the late Morris Rowe) and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson (and the late Annie Lee Johnson).
