Cattlemen Meeting

The Levy County Cattlemen and Landowners Association will host its Fall Membership Meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Whitehurst Lodge, located at 9820 SW CR 346, Archer, FL 32618.

Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend. You do not need to own cattle to become a member

Cancer Support Group

Victory over the Big "C", a cancer support group will begin meeting Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The location has yet to be finalized.

The group is open to cancer survivors, cancer patients and their caregivers and families.

Library Halloween Party

The Williston Public Library will hold a Halloween party at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.

Youth can come in costume if they would like. There will be games, crafts, a pinata, music and lots of candy at each party.

The Bronson Public Library will host the same party at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23.

TDC Meeting

The Levy County Tourist Development Council (TDC) will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2 at 620 N Hathaway Ave., Bronson.

 

Calling High School Juniors

Santa Fe College will host a pair of recruiting events geared toward high school juniors in November. The events will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, and Thursday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. on the Northwest Campus of Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83rd St., Gainesville.

Juniors will get to explore a variety of potential degree programs as well as meet with current college students and organizations. This incredibly helpful event will inspire juniors to discover a potential college option, while giving insight into important college preparation steps.

If you are a high school junior who is seeking higher education programs hoping to meet college students and get the inside scoop wondering if Santa Fe College could fit into your plan having no idea what is next after high school, this is the event for you.

High school juniors interested in attending should register by contacting their school’s guidance counselor, or emailing rachael.jukarainen@sfcollege.edu.

Walk for Life

Walk for Life 2017 will take place Saturday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m.

Meet at the gazebo in Heritage Park, not the pavilion, as previously reported.  A continental breakfast will be served beginning at 8:30 a.m.  If you have not yet registered, you may do so at the park.

Walk for Life is an annual fundraiser to support Tri-County Pregnancy Center and the work they do for the community. A non-profit organization, they receive no government funding, but rely solely on donations from individuals, churches, businesses and fund raisers.  Since opening its doors in 1996, literally thousands have been helped over the years.  In 2016, it had 625 client visits.  Although its main focus is helping moms and dads in crisis pregnancies, they offer lay counseling, and educational videos for pregnancy, parenting and life skills.  The center provides baby items, maternity clothes, kids clothes and pantry food.

AL Yard Sale

The American Legion, Post 236 of Bronson will hold its annual community yard sale and bake sale Nov. 4 beginning at 8 a.m.

Tables and spaces are available for $10 each.

WWII Vets Luncheon

Economic Development Kickoff

The city of Williston will host its Economic Development Plan kickoff meeting Thursday, Nov. 9 from 1-4 p.m. at the Williston Municipal Airport.

Members of the Department of Opportunity (DEO) will be there as well as Members of the Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) will be in attendance, along with Dr. Lynn Patterson, to help lead the city through its own, customized needs and economic development plan.

TEC Fundraiser

Bootlegging BBQ Bash to benefit Tomorrow’s Equestrian Center will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 at United Hay Sales, 13101 W. Hwy, 26, Ocala.

Dinner tickets are $8 or reserve a table of 10 for $100.

The barbecue and auction preview begin at noon with the auction starting at 1 p.m.

Veterans' Luncheon

Haven, located at 311 NE 9th St., Chiefland, will host a Veterans’ Appreciation Luncheon at noon, Friday, Nov. 10 in the Haven Community Building.

All veterans are invited to attend.

Diabetes Classes

Would you spend just two hours a week to learn how to stay active and enjoy life?

Elder Options will host a series of classes geared toward diabetes self management from 9:30 a.m. until noon every Thursday through Nov. 16.

Trained volunteers will help you set goals and make a plan toward better living.

Christmas Parade Theme

"The Songs of Christmas" is the theme for the Williston Chamber of Commerce's annual parade down Noble Avenue.

Choose your song, religious or secular, and start planning your float or marching unit. Prizes will be given to the Most Original, Best Depiction of Theme and Best in Show.

Entrants will need to register at the Chamber to be in the parade.

Square Dance Class/Dance

SHINE, a volunteer program with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, will assist you in making the best informed decision for your 2018 Medicare Part D Drug Plan or Medicare Advantage Plan. Bring your Medicare Card, your 2017 Plan card (if any), and all your Prescription drug bottles or a 6 months listing of your prescriptions from your pharmacy.

Total Fitness Class

Each Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m., a total fitness class is held at the Bronson Community Church, next to Levy County Transit.

Participants use free weights, step and resistant bands.

Bring a towel and water, and get ready to sweat. A $2 donation is asked.

Tri-County Pregnancy Center

Tri-County Pregnancy Center has phased out walk-ins at the Williston center.  Please call for an appointment.  The center is open open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

A non-profit organization, Tri-County Pregnancy Center exists to help women who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy with emotional and practical assistance.  All of the services are free.

Buy a Paver; Honor Veterans

Funds are still needed to complete the Veterans Memorial in Williston's Heritage Park.

A project by the Williston Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), the memorial will also honor veterans – living and dead – with stone pavers at its base.

For $50 an individual can honor a veteran with a paver/brick that has space available for three lines to recognize the veteran’s service. Veterans do not have to be from Williston – or Levy County – to be honored.

Mobile Food Pantry

The second Thursday of each month there will be a mobile pantry sponsored by From the Heart Ministry at the Masonic Hall in Williston. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Williston Junior Horseman’s Club

NEW MEMBERS WANTED: The Junior Horseman’s Club invites all children ages 5-17 years to participate in a fun, mounted horse club.

If your child loves horses and wants to learn more, this is the club for them.

The Williston Junior Horseman’s club offers bi-monthly mounted meetings, introductions to a wide variety of disciplines, trail rides, games, mini clinics, hippology, field trips and much more! All disciplines, breeds and experience levels are welcome.

Meetings are every other Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Williston Horse Park.

Costs are $10/year plus WHA yearly family membership ($45/year).

No One Dies Alone Program

Haven Hospice believes that we can assist with reducing the number of patients who die alone with our new Volunteer Based Program “No One Dies Alone”. This program will be volunteer driven and will be available to help patients and families during their journey.

Haven is actively recruiting volunteers who may be interested in volunteering for the No One Dies Alone Volunteer Program. This program will be offered to our families in all areas served by Haven Hospice. The volunteers will be specially trained and have a deep desire to help in end of life visitations. Lions Club Meeting

The Williston Lions Club meets on the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse, 401 SE 6th Ave., Williston.

The club hosts regular weekly and monthly events for all to participate and is always accepting new members and volunteers who want to help out in our community. Guests are welcome anytime.

Ugly Sweater 5K Registration

Registration is now underway for the fourth annual Ugly Sweater 5K and 1-Mile Fun Walk, which is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Blue Run Park at 19680 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Dunnellon.

Fees are $25 now through Friday, Dec. 1, for the 5K, and $30 the day of the race. Cost is $20 for the 1-Mile Fun Walk through the day of the event. Proceeds benefit the Dunnellon High School athletics programs.

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers as well as the male and female master’s division winners (50 and older) as well as the top three placers in 10 and younger, 11 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 24, 25 to 30, 31 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74 and 75 and older.
