CEE Luncheon

Citizens for an Engaged Electorate hosts its monthly Open Discussion Luncheon Thursday, Sept. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Melanie's Restaurant, 112 E. Noble in Williston. Join any discussion going on within the group or start one of your own. No topic is off-limits, so long as the discussion is kept respectful.

Lions Club Sale

The Williston Lions Club, located at 401 SE 6th Ave., is holding a huge used furniture sale until Sept. 16. Come check out the selections available.

All proceeds are used for community based programs. The club is open Saturdays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and starting Sept. 1, will also be open Fridays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

FOWL Zoo Program

Members of the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo will be at the Williston Library at 2 p.m. Sept. 9 to discuss the importance of Florida Native Species.

They will bring Florida native animals and discuss ecosystems, keystone species, invasive species and how you can help.

The Santa Fe Teaching Zoo is the only Zookeeper training program in the nation with an accredited zoo.

This free program and refreshments are sponsored by Friends of the Williston Library (FOWL).

WWII Vets

World War II Vets and Proud of It will meet at Hobo's Restaurant in Trenton Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. All veterans, spouses and caregivers are welcomed. For more information, call Virginia Lewis, Williston, at 352-528-2310.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Williston Library will hold its Autumn Book Sale Saturday, Sept. 23 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. behind the library.

Lions Club Car Show

The Williston Lions Club will host a Car and Motorcycle Show Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Registration is 8-11 a.m. and is $10 in advance or $15 the day of the show.

There will be a 50/50 drawing, live music from Chrome and a barbecue lunch will be available for purchase.

All proceeds will help the club fund service projects and national chritable organizations.

The event is sponsored in part by Williston Tire and Auto, Maguire's Auto Repair and Home of Do Right Cookin.'

Legislative Delegation

State Sen. Rob Bradley, chairman of the Levy County Legislative Delegation, has scheduled the annual delegation hearing for Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 9:30 a.m. – noon at the Dogan S. Cobb Municipal Building, located at 660 E Hathaway Ave., Bronson.

The legislative delegation holds a public hearing each year to afford local officials, members of the public, and other interested parties the opportunity to present legislative proposals or express opinions on state issues. “This hearing really helps us to understand the needs and the goals of the community as we establish our respective legislative priorities,” said Senator Bradley. “We are fortunate to have a delegation that works well together and has been highly effective in focusing state resources on issues and institutions that are important to Levy County.”

The Levy County legislative delegation includes Senator Bradley (R-Fleming Island) and Representative Charlie Stone (R-Ocala). The next Regular Session of the Florida Legislature will convene on January 9, 2018 in Tallahassee.
