Ribbon Cutting

Quick Care Med, located at 514 W. Noble Ave., will hold an open house at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 20 (today) following a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Williston Chamber of Commerce.

Barbecue Weekend

Smokin' -N-The Country, an annual barbecue festival, takes place this weekend, July 22-23 in Cornelius Williams Park, located on US Alt 27, east of the city limits in Williston.

In addition to free admission, there will be food, vendors, music, fun and of course, dozens of barbecue pitmasters to taunt you with their style of cooking.

A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the best pitmaster in the contest.

Movie In The Park

The city of Williston will present another Movie in the Park night beginning at 7:30 Friday, July 28 at the Heritage Park Pavilion.

Admission is free and popcorn and drink will be provided free of charge. Bring a chair or blanket and your family and enjoy the movie.

FOWL Book Sale

The Friends of the Williston Library will hold its summer book sale Saturday, Aug. 5 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the small building behind the library, 10 SE 1st St., Williston.

Peanut Festival 2017

It's time to start thinking about the 29th Annual North Central Florida Peanut Festival, scheduled this year for Saturday, Oct. 7.

The Williston Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for booth space at the event. Visit www.willistonfl.com or come by the Chamber office at 607 SW 1st Avenue between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Applications for Little Peanut Royalty are also at the Chamber office, city hall and the Chamber website.

Total Fitness Class

Each Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11 a.m., a total fitness class is held at the Bronson Community Church, next to Levy County Transit.

Donna, the certified instructor from the Cooper Insitute of Aerobics, focuses on a full body workout using a number of strategies including: free weights, resistant bands, aerobics, Zumba and Tai Bo.

A $2 donation is requested.

Square Dancing

Dancing resumes with the square dance class at 6:30 and dance at 7 p.m. July 19 at the Williston Crossings RV Resort, 410 NE 5th St., Williston.

No One Dies Alone Program

Haven Hospice believes that we can assist with reducing the number of patients who die alone with our new Volunteer Based Program “No One Dies Alone”. This program will be volunteer driven and will be available to help patients and families during their journey.

Haven is actively recruiting volunteers who may be interested in volunteering for the No One Dies Alone Volunteer Program. This program will be offered to our families in all areas served by Haven Hospice. The volunteers will be specially trained and have a deep desire to help in end of life visitations. Lions Club Meeting

The Williston Lions Club meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse, 401 SE 6th Ave., Williston.

The club hosts regular weekly and monthly events for all to participate and is always accepting new members and volunteers who want to help out in our community. Guests are welcome anytime.

WE SOAR Summer Programs

WE SOAR, Inc. will host its 2017 Summer Enrichment Program through Aug. 12 offering piano/keyboard lessons, drums/percussion lessons, dance, pantomime and drama.

Sessions will start in the evening from 6:30-8/9 p.m. at various locations.

JBE Kindergarten Registration

Registration for kindergarten continues at Joyce Bullock Elementary. Class/teacher placement began in June.

To register, you will need your child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records and a physical that cannot be more than one year old from the start of the school year.

• Incoming kindergarten students must be 5 on or before Sept. 1

• Screening dates will be scheduled when packets are submitted

• Students enrolled in Williston daycares will be screened at daycare

• School begins Aug. 10 but not for all kindergartners, due to the staggered start

• Packets are available at the school Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

• If your child attends JBE Pre-K, he is automatically registered for kindergarten. Updated physicals and immunizations are needed.

Mobile Food Pantry

The second Thursday of each month there will be a mobile pantry sponsored by From the Heart Ministry at the Masonic Hall in Williston. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Buy a Paver; Honor Veterans

The plan to unveil a veterans’/war memorial in Heritage Park will be held Veterans Day 2017.

To date, more than $40,000 has been raised for the memorial.

A project by the Williston Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), the memorial will also honor veterans – living and dead – with stone pavers at its base.

For $50 an individual can honor a veteran with a paver/brick that has space available for three lines to recognize the veteran’s service. Veterans do not have to be from Williston – or Levy County – to be honored.
