CEE Discussion Luncheon

Citizens for an Engaged Electorate hosts its  monthly Open Discussion Luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Melanie's Restaurant, 112 E. Noble in Williston. Join any discussion going on within the group or start one of your own. No topic is off-limits, as long as it's respectful.

TDC Meeting

The Levy County Tourist Development Council will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 at 620 N Hathaway Ave., Bronson (U.S. Alt. 27) in the Levy County Road Department Office Building.

 

Camellia Show

Gainesville Camellia Society's 40th Annual Camellia Show will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 10 at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, 4700 SW 58th Dr. 

Growers may enter blooms on Saturday from 6:30–10:15 a.m.  Judging will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  The public is invited to view the flowers from 1– 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Unique camellia plants will be available for sale from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. until all plants are sold.

AMVETS Auxiliary Yard Sale

AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 444 will hold a yard sale  Saturday, Jan. 9 from 8 a.m. until noon at the post, located at 115 NE 6th Blvd., Williston.

All proceeds will go to Gainesville Fisher House.

AARP Meeting

Whitey Markle, from the Sierra Club will be the speaker at the Monday, Jan. 11 meeting of AARP Chapter #912.   Markle is an expert on Florida rivers and springs.  

The chapter meets the second Monday each month at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 661 NW 1st Ave., Williston at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and socializing with the meeting starting at 10 a.m.  There will be a hot dog lunch after the meeting this month.

   Visitors are welcome.

 

AMVETS 

Cook Off

AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 444 will sponsor a One Pot Wonder Cook Off for AMVETS members, families and guests Jan. 23 at the post, located at 115 NE 6th Blvd., Williston.

Registration fee is $20 and the deadline is Jan. 16.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Fisher House.

Poetry Reading

The Dunnellon Poetry Society will meet for a poetry open mike on   Sunday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m.  at the Dunnellon Historic Train Depot, on   12061 S. Williams St.  

The group gets together at that location and time each  month on the third Sunday.  The event is open to all poets and other lovers of poetry.

Poets will read as many as three pages of their own original work.  If time and material allow, an additional round of readings will take place.  

A  donation of $3 per attendee will be contributed to the Greater Dunnellon  Historical Society.

State Fair Trip

A community trip to the State Fair in Tampa with pickups in Archer and Williston is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6.

Clover Squares of Levy County will be dancing on Wednesday evenings at Williston Crossings RV Park Community Center, 410 NE 5th St.,Williston.  Classes will begin at 6:30 followed by the dance at 7:30.

Buy a Paver; Honor Veterans

The plan to unveil a veterans'/war memorial in Heritage Park is thousands of dollars away from fruition.

More than $20,000 is needed to erect the lighted memorial that will pay tribute to all branches of the armed forces. To date, only about a quarter of that money has been raised.

The memorial, a project by the Williston Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), will also honor veterans – living and dead – with stone pavers at its base. 

For $50 an individual can honor a veteran with a paver/brick that  has space available for three lines to recognize the veteran’s service.

Mobile Food Pantry

The second Thursday of each month there will be a mobile pantry sponsored by From the Heart Ministry at the Masonic Hall in Williston.  The doors will open at 12:30 p.m.  All are welcome.

Zumba Classes

Zumba, the dance fitness program that is suitable for all ages 0-100, is held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church gym. The cost is $1. 

On Thursday night, classes are held at 6:30 in the fellowship hall of Holy Family Catholic Church and the cost is $2. The instructor for both classes is Nina Nettles. 

 

Tri-County Pregnancy

Tri-County Pregnancy Center is open to clients between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  in the Williston Center.

Tri-County Pregnancy Center is a not for profit organization, helping area families in crisis and is located across the street from Williston High School.  Call 352-528-0200 for information.

 

Methodist Thrift Store

First United Methodist Church Mission Thrift store is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. he store is located at 25 SW 3rd St., Williston.

 

American Legion Bingo

Landrum Memorial American Legion Post 236,  located at 9550 N.E. U.S. Hwy 27 Alt. Bronson has Jackpot Bingo every Monday night at 6:30 p.m.

Williston Lions Club 

The Williston Lions Club meets the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse, 401 SE 6th Ave., Williston. The club hosts regular weekly and monthly events for all to participate. New members and volunteers for those who want to help out in the community are accepted. Guests are welcome anytime.

VFW Post 5511 meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

Trikers Meeting

Chiefland Bingo

 Bingo is back at the Chiefland Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays after exercise at 9 a.m. enjoy the craft classes. Card making has moved to Mondays and all other crafts are now on Wednesdays.
