CEE Luncheon

Citizens for an Engaged Electorate hosts its monthly Open Discussion Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Melanie’s Restaurant, 112 E. Noble in Williston. Join any discussion going on within the group or start one of your own. No topic is off-limits, so long as the discussion is kept respectful.

Veteran Info Session

The College of Central Florida will host an information session for veterans Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the University Center lobby at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

Veterans who are thinking about going to college and those who are current CF students are invited to attend. In addition to a pizza dinner provided by Jenkins Automotive Group, attendees will receive information on admissions, how to transfer credits, online learning opportunities, and student support services.

WWII Vets

World War II Vets will meet Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Ivy House in Williston. This is open to all WW II vets, their spouses or caregivers.

Hunter Safety Course

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering free hunter safety internet-completion courses in February.

Students who have taken the online course and wish to complete the classroom portion must bring the online-completion report with them.

All firearms, ammunition and materials are provided free of charge. Students should bring a pen or pencil and paper. An adult must accompany children younger than 16 at all times.

Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975, must pass an approved hunter safety course and have a hunting license to hunt alone (unsupervised). The FWC course satisfies hunter-safety training requirements for all other states and Canadian provinces.

In Levy County, the class is Feb. 11 in Chiefland beginning at 9 a.m.

A bowhunting class is also scheduled. This is bowhunting only and will be conducted at the Osceola Gun Range in Lake City Feb. 4 (9 a.m. until complete).

The specific locations for these classes will be given to those who register in advance. Those interested in attending a course can register online and obtain information about future hunter safety classes at MyFWC.com/HunterSafety or by calling the FWC’s regional office in Lake City at 386-758-0525.

WHS Baseball Alumni Day

The Annual WHS Baseball Alumni Day will be Saturday, Feb. 11.

Baseball camp for youth ages 5-13 is from 9 a.m- noon. Lunch is provided and the cost is $25.

STARS Gala

The Levy County Schools Foundation STARS Gala will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at Williston Middle/High School.

The semiformal evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and mingling at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and program at 6 p.m. The event will benefit the nonprofit Foundation with funds to support its scholarship and grant programs for Levy County Schools.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person and are now on sale. Sponsorship opportunities will be available at $250, $500, $1,000 and $2,000 levels.

Chamber Celebrates Mardi Gras

Get ready when Mardi Gras comes to Williston Saturday, Feb. 25 when the Williston Chamber of Commerce hosts its Installation Banquet at 6 p.m. at Holy Catholic Church.

A New Orleans-style meal with decor, music and fun are on the agenda.

Chamber members will receive invitations soon. The general public is also encouraged to attend to learn more about the chamber. Tickets are $25 each or a table of six for $200.

Concealed Weapon Class

Covenant Connection Marriage Ministry of Unity Temple International Fellowship in their fundraising efforts will have a Basic Pistol Class through the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Saturday, Feb. 25. The cost of the class is $65.

Each participant must bring picture ID. You can also bring your gun, ear and eye protection and 25 rounds of ammunition if you have it.

The class will begin promptly at 8 a.m. at the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Classroom, located at 9150 NE 80th Ave. Bronson, FL 32621.

The Archer Historical Society is accepting applications for vendors, artists and craftspeople of all kinds who would like to display and sell their art, homemade handicrafts, home businesses and food of all kinds March 11 from 10-4.

Buy a Paver; Honor Veterans

The plan to unveil a veterans’/war memorial in Heritage Park is thousands of dollars away from fruition.

More than $20,000 is needed to erect the lighted memorial that will pay tribute to all branches of the armed forces. To date, less than half of that money has been raised.

The memorial, a project by the Williston Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), will also honor veterans – living and dead – with stone pavers at its base.

For $50 an individual can honor a veteran with a paver/brick that has space available for three lines to recognize the veteran’s service.

Junior Mounted Horse Club

The Junior Horseman’s Club invites all children ages 5-17 years to participate in a fun, mounted horse club.  If your child loves horses and wants to learn more, this is the club for them.  The Juniors Club offers bi-monthly mounted meetings, introductions to a wide variety of disciplines, trail rides, games, mini clinics, hippology, field trips and much more.  All disciplines, breeds and experience levels are welcome.

 Children with or without a horse are encouraged to participate.

Meetings are every other Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Williston Horse Park.

Costs are $10/year plus WHA yearly family membership ($40/year).

Square Dancing

Clover Squares of Levy County dance class will begin Wednesday at 6:30 and the regular dance at 7:30 at the Williston Crossings RV Resort, 410 NE 5th Street, Williston.

Safety Seat Inspections

Free 20-minute child safety seat inspections are available by appointment at the Early Learning Coalition of the Nature Coast, 117 NE First St. Chiefland, to be sure a car seat is not recalled, damaged or expired; is appropriate for the child’s age, height and weight; is used correctly and installed securely.  Safe, new seats are available if needed at low cost for income eligible families.

Mobile Food Pantry

The second Thursday of each month there will be a mobile pantry sponsored by From the Heart Ministry at the Masonic Hall in Williston. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Narcotics Anonymous meets every Wednesday at the Mending Fences Treatment Center, 15530 West Hwy. 326, Morriston from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Alanon Meetings

Alanon meets at 7 p.m. every Monday at Midway Plaza.

Love Levy Help Center

Love Levy Community Help Center is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to assist residents with food, clothing and biblical guidance.

AL Post 236 Bingo

American Legion Post 236 hosts Bingo every Monday at 6 p.m. There are all-inclusive bingo packs for purchase. If enough players are there early, there will bean "early bird" game. The last game of the night is a "winner take all" game. These two games are purchased separately if you wish to play.
