Football? Spring practice paves way for the season

-A A +A

It is called spring football practice at high schools all over the state of Florida. The Williston Red Devils are no different than other high schools as they begin to work out the kinks, get unused muscles tightened and begin to work on skills needed for the athletes come next fall.
Not all of the Red Devil team members are taking advantage of the spring practice that started May 1 and ends with the annual spring game to be played May 24.
Several potential team members are involved in AAU basketball and are not available for spring football practice.
The Red Devils will spend their second season this fall playing as an Independent, but the schedule is anything but a normal Independent schedule just like last season.
The Red Devils have several seniors returning and a crop of under class men moving up from an undefeated Junior Varsity team. The Red Devils lost several Assistant coaches who moved on to accept other positions with other schools, following last season’s 4-6 record.
This coming fall the 2012 Red Devil football team should be a much better team, packed with outstanding athletes at most every position.
There was a very positive attitude being displayed by the players as they continued going through drills that are sure to run over into the 2012 fall season.
Defensively, the 2012 Red Devils have some outstanding athletes at every position. On offense, look for the Red Devils to air it out more than normal and when they run the ball, they will have power, toughness, and speed in the back field.
It is a generic statement for sure, but, if the offensive line performs to their ability, and players stay healthy, watch out for the 2012 Red Devils this fall.
The spring game will be played Thursday night May 24, at Tavaras at 7 p.m.
