If you’ve ever had a desire to soar among the birds high above the earth, you will soon have an opportunity.

Tuesday night the Williston City Council unanimously approved a two-year lease for Sky Chiefs Aviation, owned by Ryan and Kemi  Foote, who will relocate their Gainesville flight school to the Williston Municipal Airport.

The school will provide instruction for beginning pilots and will utilize two single engine aircraft, Ryan Foote told council. "It’s our goal to expand,” said Kemi Foote.

Improvements to the leased  property will include an 11’x56’ structure, an office and restrooms. Additionally the Footes will lease T-Hangars at the airport.

“We’re excited to come to Williston,” the couple said after the meeting, adding they see a lot of potential for growth for their business.

In other news Tuesday, the council learned that a feasibility study for recruiting and constructing a hotel/motel in Williston is in the works.

City Manager Scott Lippmann has met with a successful hotel developer and operator in Ocala who specializes in smaller Central Florida cities. That developer said the first step is to do a study to see if Williston warrants a hotel.

Once the study is complete and if it is favorable, the city can move forward with recruiting a company who wants to locate in the city.
