The Williston Red Devils sent The Villages packing in the regional quarterfinal, then the Santa Fe Raiders in the semifinals after having the game moved to Bronson, then came the regional finals, again moved to Bronson.
But it was there the Red Devils came up short, losing to Orlando Jones Saturday night in the last 22 seconds.
The Red Devils were up 63-62 and rebounded the missed shot by Jones. Deterion Ross had the ball but aggressive play saw his jersey ripped completely out of his pants by two Jones’ players trying to commit an intentional foul as time was running out. No foul was called and one of the Jones players ripped the ball lose.
Jones made a quick basket to take a 64-63 lead with 8.7 seconds remaining.
Williston took the ball out of bounds, and Paul King caught the inbound pass and was pushed out of bounds. There was no call, and Jones had the ball again for a quick layup as time ran out with Jones winning 66-63.
Deterion Ross led all players with 20 points and James Monroe added 17 points for the Red Devils. Tre Wilson and Paul King each had 10 points as well. Angelo Warner had 19 points to lead Orlando Jones.
