The Williston Red Devils fell to the Dixie County Bears 61-52 on Friday night in Cross City. The game was an exciting match-up between two teams that bring out the best in each other.

The winless Bears came into this game with a 0-3-season record but played like a team possessed. Dixie's all-state running back Rodney Scott would not be stopped, as he ran for over 300 yards and scored 5 touchdowns.

Williston countered with two touchdowns by Courtney Days, a 45-yard TD catch by Brandon Scott, a 68-yard TD run by Dontrell Edwards, and Deonte Welch's three touchdowns (two on the ground and one on a spectacular juggling catch near the end zone.

Even while Dixie was putting big points on the scoreboard, Williston never gave up, and it seemed that by the second half the Red Devils were finding their scoring groove.

Williston outscored Dixie 30 to 21 after halftime, but did not have enough time to overcome the 24-point lead they spotted the Bears earlier in the game. Williston closed out the game with running back Deonte Welch battling to get into the end zone, but he was stopped short as the scoreboard in Bruce Boyette Stadium showed all zeros and score of 52-61 Dixie.

Williston team leaders:

Deonte Welch - 287 total yards - 3 touchdowns

Courtney Days - 231 total yards passing and running 3 touchdowns (2 run -1 pass)

Dontrell Edwards -70 yards rushing - 1 touchdown

Brandon Scott -1 touchdown catch
