Williston Mayor Gerald Hethcoat and the city council honored Students of the Month prior to the March 6 meeting.
Gabriel Zahradka, son of Karen Zahradka, was chosen from Joyce Bullock Elementary School. A kindergarten student, he was nominated by Mrs. Bastak, who said, “Gabriel is a wonderful kindergarten student who loves his classmates, loves learning and is always showing his ABC’s with his behavior.  He is reading, writing, and doing high level math.  He comes from a large family and is often over looked according to mom.  Thank you for considering him.
Susan Bastak (proud kindergarten teacher).”
Lauren Faircloth, a fifth grader, was chosen from Williston Elementary School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Faircloth and nominated by Ms. Brewington, who wrote, “Lauren was chosen because she is very helpful, kind and considerate to everyone.  She always goes above and beyond.  She is a great asset to our classroom and to the safety patrols.”
The seventh grade team at Williston Middle School nominated Luis Sanchez, son of Rosa and Dagoberto Sanchez.
The nomination read, “Seventh Grade Student of the Month Luis Sanchez is an excellent young man.  He always maintains honor roll, is quick to help others, and behaves well in class and on campus.  Luis is also the winner of our school-wide geography bee.  This young man always goes above and beyond what is required.  For example, he will do extra credit when it is not needed and he will volunteer to take on tasks that the others are reluctant to attempt.  Luis is just an all around terrific young man.”
Hayley Higgins, a senior at Williston High School, was nominated by Principal John Lott. She is the daughter of Dave and Sheri Higgins .
Lott wrote, “We would like to recommend Hayley Higgins.  She is a 12th grader, has a 3.61 GPA and is in the top 20 percent of her class. She is active in FFA. She was selected by her peers as Homecoming Queen this school year. She is very active at the First United Methodist Church and involved in the youth group. She is a wonderful young woman and a joy to have in class.”
