Monday, Feb. 14

AARP
AARP Chapter #912 meets the second Monday each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall.  At the meeting on Monday, Feb. 14, members will bring unwrapped baby items to contribute to the Tri-County Pregnancy Center.  Vistors are welcome.  All AARP national members in the area are encouraged to  join the chapter.

Friends Book Store
The Friends Book Store, located inside the library, at 20351 Robinson Road (just behind Sweet Bay) in Dunnellon, announces a one week Valentine’s “Book-Lover’s” Book Sale.  All books are half price starting Monday, Feb. 14  through  Saturday, Feb. 19.  Store hours are daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. All sales benefit the Dunnellon Public Library.

African American Festival

Republican Executive Committee
The Levy County Republican Executive Committee will have its monthly meeting at Bubbaque’s Restaurant in Chiefland Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 starting with food and fellowship at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.  If you need a ride  call Juanita 339-0747.
We are looking for Republicans who want to; 1) increase the Republicans in Levy County; 2) educatevoters on issues; 3) increase Republican candidates; and 4) increase the voters at the polls.

Bronson FOL Book Sale
The Friends of the Bronson Library will be holding their semi-annual Book Sale at theOld Bronson Town Hall, Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The cost of the books is a ‘Buck a Bag’, grocery bag that is.  For further information, call 486-2015.

Police Banquet
The 11th Annual City of Williston Police Awards Banquet will be held Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. at Williston Crossings RV Park.
Along with dinner and entertainment, guests will have an opportunity to bid farewell to Chief Dan Davis, who is retiring in February.
Tickets are $15 each.

Daddy’s Sweetheart Dance
The GFWC Williston Junior Woman’s Club will host its annual “Daddy’s Sweetheart Dance” Feb. 26, 2011 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Williston Elementary School Cafetorium. This dance is an opportunity for girls in kindergarten through fifth grade to spend a special evening with a man in her life that she looks up to. Dads, step-dads, uncles, grandpas, big brothers, and family friends are invited to bring their “little princess” out for a night of dancing and fun.
 Tickets are $15 per sweetheart and her date, and include a souvenir photo of the couple and light refreshments. Additional “sweethearts” are just $5 each with the same date. Tickets may be purchased in advance in the Joyce Bullock Elementary School library from  Eva-Jean Watson or in the Williston Elementary School Library from Donna Lovvorn.

Wild Hog Race
AMVETS Post 88 is gearing up for the 34th Annual Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race on April 30.  This marks the sixth year the post has hosted the race. Registration starts at 7:30.  You can visit the website at http://www.wildhog.wetpaint.com for information and print the racer’s registration form.  There is sure to be a category you can race in so get busy planning to have a great time at this year’s race.

AARP Tax-Aide Begins
Free tax preparation and E-file with AARP Tax Aide begins Thursday, Feb. 3 at the Williston Public Library.
Tax preparers will be onsite every Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. through April 15.

Dunnellon VFW Post 7991
The Veterans of Foreign Wars at 3107 W. Dunnellon Rd, CR 488, Dunnellon presents: Breakfast, including a massive plate of victuals (10 items), is served the second and fourth Sunday of every month from 8:30 - 11 a.m. at a cost of $6.  BINGO with a progressive jackpot is held every Friday from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.  Hot dogs, burgers and french fries are available.  Open to the public.
 Regular monthly meeting of the post and auxiliary(s) is at 5 p.m. to eat, 6 p.m. to meet the third Thursday of every month.

Painted Pizza Box Contest
Angelina Mia’s Restaurant in Williston is offering a “Painted Pizza Box Contest” in conjunction with the Levy County Fair.
  Every month there will be a total of 30 boxes available to be picked up at the restaurant on West Noble Avenue.
 Paint the box any way you like and bring it back by the end of the month.  Boxes will be judged monthly and the top three winners from each month will receive a free large pizza.  They will also be displayed and judged at the Levy County Fair in the Creative Arts Tent during the April 2011 Fair.  For more information about the Fair go to LevyCountyFair.com

AmVets Post 444, located on Alt-27 just past the BP station on the left side headed toward Bronson, has Bingo every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The games are open to the public.

First United Methodist Church Mission Thrift store is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The store is located at 25 SW 3rd St., Williston.
