Benefit Poker Run
AMVETS Post 444 will host a Benefit Poker Run Saturday, Oct. 1 for Justin Fairbanks.
Register at the post at 10 a.m. and kickstands go up at 11 a.m.
The route includes stops at Sunray’s, Willards, McKenzie’s 4 Corners, AMVETS Post 422 Chiefland, AMVETS Post 88 Bronson and ends back at Post 444. Cost is $10 per hand at registration.
There will be a 50/50 drawing and raffles throughout the day.
Entertainment, beginning at 6 p.m., is donated by Electrik Fence Blues Band.
Food will be available at Post 444 at the end of the run for $5 per plate. Donations of side dishes are needed. Please Contact Post 444 to sign up to bring a side dish.

JBES Yard Sale
Joyce Bullock Elementary PTO will sponsor a yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. You may rent a space for $10 to sell your yard sale items. The yard sale will be held in the high school parking lot near the Methodist Church. Medicare Open Enrollment Period for Parts C (Health Plans) & D (Drug Plans) will begin Oct. 15 and end Dec. 7.
SHINE, a volunteer program with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, will help you understand your choices. We begin before Open Enrollment to assist you in filling out the paperwork necessary to run the plans for you. Please bring your Medicare Card, your Part C or Part D card, and your prescription bottles (we can take a 90 day print-out of your drugs from your pharmacist instead).
When the site opens on Oct 15th, your information can be input and SHINE representatives can determine the best plan at the least cost for you.
Representatives will not enroll you in any plan without your approval.
Please remember that SHINE is available year round at either our monthly sites or by calling 1-800-262-2243 to be referred to a volunteer near you. SHINE offers free, confidential and one-on-one counseling.
SHINE will be at the Williston Library Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. until noon and at the Bronson Library from 1:30-4 p.m .

Schools Foundation Beast Feast
The Levy County Schools Foundation will be hosting its 2nd Annual Beast Feast Oct. 8 at the Black Prong Equestrian Center on CR 337, Bronson.
Dinner will begin being served at 5:30 p.m. An interesting selection of specialties like gator tail, possum ribs, and venison along with some good old fashioned southern classics like mullet, grits, and swamp cabbage will be served.
There will be door prizes throughout the evening and a live auction at the end of the evening. Adult tickets are $20 each in advance, or $25 at the gate. Student tickets are $10 for children 8 to 17, available at the gate only, and children 7 years and under, no charge.
Tickets may be purchased at any of the Capital City Bank, Drummond Community Bank and Perkins State Bank branches across Levy County.
If your business, community organization, club or group of individuals would like to participate you may prepare a food, donate door prizes or an auction item. There are also sponsorships available for $500 and $250.

The Relay for Life kickoff party will be held Monday, Oct. 15 in Williston’s Heritage Park from 5-8 p.m.
The party’s theme is Kentucky Derby.

Walk for Life
The 12th Annual Walk For Life will be held Saturday, Oct. 15. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the Walk will begin at 9 a.m.
This year a free breakfast is included for all pre-registered walkers. For those that cannot join the walk, sponsoring a walker is a great way to show your support of life.

Assistance is available for qualifying residents of Alachua and Marion County over the age of 60 who are being discharged from the hospital or rehab center or have experienced an illness or other crisis and need temporary services in their homes. The Community Living Program can provide help for seniors who meet eligibility requirements.
Services may include personal care, medical equipment and supplies, home delivered meals, transportation and many other types of help.

Williston Art League
The Williston Art League meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the history room of the First United Methodist Church on Noble Avenue.
Membership is open to anyone over the age of 18.
Meeting dates are Oct. 11, Nov. 8 and Dec. 13 (location for this meeting to be determined).
Upland Habitat Course
The Florida Master Naturalist Program will begin a six-week course on upland habitats Thursdays Sept. 22-Oct. 27 at the Levy County Extension Office, 625 N. Hathaway Ave (Alt. 27), Bronson.
The cost is $225, which includes student workbooks, 12 presentations, three field trips, four videos, certificate, patch, pin and more.

Williston Genealogy Club
Lindsey Hager is interested in establishing a genealogy club in the Williston area.
Interested parties will meet at the Williston Public Library Monday from 6-7 p.m. (not including Labor Day).
Hager will help novice genealogists get started by showing them how to use the Internet in their research.
