Friday, May 20
The Chiefland Star Party Group will present a telescopic view of the stars and planets at the Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve in Yankeetown at 8:30 p.m., May 20 at the observation tower.
The program begins with a laser show of the spring constellations. Several large telescopes will be available for viewing including the largest “GoTo” Scope in the Southeast. Multiple objects will be observed including the rings and moons of Saturn. The new moon gives little night light interference for better stargazing conditions.
The preserve has very low artificial lighting which add to the experience and is hard to find in our electrified environment. For your safety we recommend arriving before sunset to sign in. Bring a flashlight and bug spray.
