Tourist Council
The Levy County Tourist Development Council will have its  bi-monthly meeting Tuesday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at Levy County Visitors Bureau 620 N. Hathaway Ave., Bronson
The meeting is open to the public.

Jazz Festival
The Gainesville Friends of Jazz  will showcase the Ninth Annual Gainesville Jazz Festival, a two-day event begining  Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.
at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship located at 4225 NW 34th St.in Gainesville.
The
evening will feature the John Sanfort Quartet. The festival concludes  Saturday,
March 26 at 7:30 p.m. also at the same venue and will feature the
Mark Raudabaugh Trio.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students,
$15 for members and $20 for general admission each day. Beverages are served
at the concerts. A cash bar provides both adult beverages and soft drinks.

Wonders of the Salt Marsh
Citrus, Levy and Marion county residents are invited to attend “Wonders of the Salt Marsh”  April 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This two-day event, coordinated by the Friends of the Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve, will take place at the preserve at 1001 Old Rock Road, Yankeetown.

Clay Pigeon Benefit Tournament
The Tri-County Pregnancy Center will hold its annual Rhino Outdoors Clay Pigeon Benefit Tournament  Saturday, April 16.  Registration for the tournament will begin at 7 a.m. and shooting will start at 9 a.m.  A barbecue lunch will be served and lunch tickets can be purchased for those not shooting.
 Shooter entry fee is $100 with ammunition, targets, and lunch provided.  Four person teams and individual shooters are invited to register by calling the Tri- County Pregnancy Center at (352) 528-0200.  Shooting Station Sponsors’ advertising signs are available for a $100 donation. The Tri-County Pregnancy Center is a Christian, non profit organization dedicated to serving those in need by providing clothing, food, and Christian counsel.  It does not accept government funding, and relies solely upon the community to help meet its financial needs.

Bulk Garbage Pickup
The city of Williston will have bulk trash pickup  Friday, April 8. Items should be  at the curb by 7 a.m. on the morning of your garbage collection day
  Service is for furniture, appliances and other large single household items and small and homeowner remodeling projects such as doors, toilets, etc.

Wild Hog Race
AMVETS Post 88 is gearing up for the 34th Annual Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race on April 30.  This marks the sixth year the post has hosted the race. Registration starts at 7:30.  You can visit the website at http://www.wildhog.wetpaint.com for information and print the racer’s registration form.  There is sure to be a category you can race in so get busy planning to have a great time at this year’s race. 
All proceeds go to help the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens.

AARP Tax-Aide Under Way
Free tax preparation and E-file with AARP Tax Aide is ongoing every Thursday  from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. through April 15 at the Williston Public Library. Call 528-2313 for an appointment.

Dunnellon VFW Post 7991
The Veterans of Foreign Wars at 3107 W. Dunnellon Rd, CR 488, Dunnellon presents: Breakfast, including a massive plate of victuals (10 items), is served the second and fourth Sunday of every month from 8:30 - 11 a.m. at a cost of $6.  BINGO with a progressive jackpot is held every Friday from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.  Hot dogs, burgers and french fries are available.  Open to the public.
 Regular monthly meeting of the post and auxiliary(s) is at 5 p.m. to eat, 6 p.m. to meet the third Thursday of every month.

 AMVETS Bingo
AmVets Post 444, located on Alt-27 just past the BP station on the left side headed toward Bronson, has Bingo every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The games are open to the public.
 
Methodist Thrift Store
First United Methodist Church Mission Thrift store is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The store is located at 25 SW 3rd St., Williston.

Levy Fair Karaoke
It is that time of year again for the Levy County Fair coming up April 7-10.
The preliminary contests will be held this year at:
March 27           1 p.m.          Mason’s Lodge, Williston
There will be a $10 entry fee for each preliminary contest entered, and contestants can enter each one until they win first, second or third place.  The first, second and third place winners will go to the final competition at the Levy County Fair on Saturday, April 9.
 These competitions will be open to all singers unless you have a recording contract.  This opens the contests to many more of you that may sing locally and were previously considered professionals.  Duets are also allowed this year, but if you sing a duet, you will not be allowed to sing solo.  
Contestants will be judged on singing ability, technical difficulty of the song, dress and appearance, presentation, eye contact and interaction with the audience and judges.  On this last crierion, please be advised that does not mean you can leave the stage area and go out into the audience.  Please be sure to arrive early for registration on the date of each preliminary contest.
Prize money for the preliminary contests will be:
First Place        $100
Second Place    $  50
Third Place       $  25
