Chiefland Watermelon Festival

It is time to sign-up for the Chiefland Watermelon Festival pageants. Download an application at www.chieflandwomansclub.org

Catergories and criteria are:

Little King and Queen:  Ages 3-5 as of June 5, 2010

Little Princess:  Age:  6-10-you must have completed 1st grade 

Princess:  Age:  11-15-you must have completed the 6th grade 

Queen:  Age 16-22

Chiefland FOL

The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library in Chiefland will conduct a book sale in conjunction with the Watermelon Festival June 5.

There will be hundreds of hardcover books, paperbacks, audio books, videos and children’s books for sale at great prices.

Buy a reusable fabric tote bag for $5 and take away as many books, etc. as it will hold. Hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the white octagon building on NE 1st Avenue close to US 19 .

Family Extravaganza

The Tri-County Pregnancy Center, in collaboration with the DeWitt Mission Team, will host a Family Extravaganza at Destiny Church of God by Faith Saturday, June 5 at 5 p.m.

Help yourself and your community. SHARE, acronym for Self-Help-And-Resource-Exchange, is a private, not for profit organization that strengthens and builds communities through volunteer service and offers participants great savings on food. No income requirements; just you, your family, and your desire to make a difference.

SHARE Registration/Sign-Up at Peace Lutheran Church, is Thursday, June 10, and Saturday, June 12, from 9 AM to 11 AM. Distribution/Pick-Up Day is Saturday, June 26, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Peace Lutheran Church is now designated by SHARE as a Select Host Site.

Class of ‘80 Reunion

Willison High School Class of 1980 will hold a reunion June 18-20.

On Friday there will be a mixer; Saturday night dinner/dancing at the Womans Club and a barbecue Sunday at Rainbow Springs.

Family Programming

Tri-County Pregnancy Center is offering a new program to the community called Birth of a Family, which promotes the strong growth of lasting nuclear households, giving mothers and fathers the foundational tools to build families that stand the test of time. 

Clients attend a seven-session course guiding them through principles essential to healthy family relationships. A unique feature of this program is the participation of trained “Family Coaches.”

 Local volunteers from the Christian faith community are prepared to travel through the seven-session course alongside a client couple, or single, as role models and encouragement. 

Classes began May 25 at the Center.

AARP Activities

There will be no regular meetings of AARP Chapter #912 this summer. Fun events are planned for the second Monday each month. 

A potluck picnic lunch will be held June 14 at Blue Springs, located off U.S. Alt 27 between Bronson and Chiefland. 

The park opens at 10 a.m.  The entry fee is 50 cents for anyone over 65 and $1 for others.  Please bring a chair. 

On July 12, members will take a tour bus to the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa.  The cost is $30 which includes a $5 meal voucher and $25 of free play.

Williston High School Agriculture Department is holding its Spring Flower Sale with plants grown by Horticulture classes.

Prices are:

4” cups of Coleus, Impatiens, and Wax Begonias - $1

6” pots of Geraniums - $4

8” Hanging Baskets - $4

10” Hanging Baskets - $6

Farmers’ Market

The Williston Lions Club will open their Farmers’ Market every Saturday through December and hold Bingo every Friday at 7 p.m.

Levy County Farmers Market has fresh produce and plants. If you have something home grown or handmade, you are encouraged to participate. Call Erv at 875-7756.
