Tourist Development Council

The Levy County Tourist Development Council will have its bi-monthly meeting, Thursday, May 27 at 6 p.m. at 620 N Hathaway Ave., Bronson (Levy County Visitors Bureau Office).

The meeting is open to the public.

Tuesday, June 1

Jazz Concert

Tuesday, June 1, the Gainesville Friends of Jazz will present the Vincent Gardner Quartet to celebrate Black Music Month at the Thomas Center, 302 NE 6 Ave., Gainesville. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m. General admission is $20; members $15 and students $10.

Do you have questions about your options for Medicare, Medicare/Medicaid, disability, supplemental insurance, Part D Prescription Drug Plans or Medicare billings?

If you do, come see SHINE, a volunteer program with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, for one-on-one counseling. SHINE provides free, unbiased and confidential assistance.

If you cannot come to a site call the Elder Helpline at 1-800-262-2243 to be referred to a SHINE Volunteer. SHINE will be at the Williston Public Library from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, June 2 and at the Bronson Public Library from 1:30-3:30 that afternoon.

Chiefland Watermelon Festival

It is time to sign-up for the Chiefland Watermelon Festival pageants. Download an application at www.chieflandwomansclub.org

Catergories and criteria are:

Little King and Queen:  Ages 3-5 as of June 5, 2010

Little Princess:  Age:  6-10-you must have completed 1st grade 

Princess:  Age:  11-15-you must have completed the 6th grade 

Queen:  Age 16-22

Chiefland FOL

The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library in Chiefland will conduct a book sale in conjunction with the Watermelon Festival June 5.

There will be hundreds of hardcover books, paperbacks, audio books, videos and children’s books for sale at great prices. Hardly anything will be over a dollar and most will be much less.

Buy a reusable fabric tote bag for $5 and take away as many books, etc. as it will hold. Hours are 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

The Friends will be in the white octagon building on NE 1st Avenue close to US 19 and behind the fire station Saturday, June 5. Look for the signs and banners.

Family Programming

Tri-County Pregnancy Center is offering a new program to the community called Birth of a Family, which promotes the strong growth of lasting nuclear households, giving mothers and fathers the foundational tools to build families that stand the test of time. 

Clients attend a seven-session course guiding them through principles essential to healthy family relationships. A unique feature of this program is the participation of trained “Family Coaches.”

  Local volunteers from the Christian faith community are prepared to travel through the seven-session course alongside a client couple, or single, as role models and encouragement. 

 Classes will began May 25 at the Center.

The SHARE Florida Food Network announces its 2010 registration and distribution dates. Registration times are 1-3 p.m. and pick up times are 9-10 a.m. Both take place at Cornerstone Assembly of God.

Williston High School Agriculture Department is holding its Spring Flower Sale with plants grown by Horticulture classes.

Prices are:

4” cups of Coleus, Impatiens, and Wax Begonias - $1

6” pots of Geraniums - $4

8” Hanging Baskets - $4

10” Hanging Baskets - $6

Farmers’ Market

The Williston Lions Club will open their Farmers’ Market every Saturday through December and hold Bingo every Friday at 7 p.m.

Levy County Farmers Market has fresh produce and plants. If you have something home grown or handmade, you are encouraged to participate. Call Erv at 875-7756.
