Land Judging Event

The Tri County Land Judging Event for all FFA and 4-H members will be Feb. 26.

This contest is restricted to members of FFA or a 4-H club. The host this year is Levy County. The youth will meet behind the IFAS office in Bronson on Hwy 27-A.

Saturday, Feb. 27

Bark-N-Purr

The Humane Society of Levy County invites all chili cooks to participate at the 3rd Annual Bark-N-Purr Charity Concert sponsored by Bubba Que’s & Hungry Howie’s on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Bronson Youth League Park, 220 Picnic St, Bronson.

In addition to a fun lineup of activities starting at p.m., this year’s featured artists are Nashville recording stars Chris Young and Jeff Bates. Advance admission pricesare General Seating A $5, General Seating B $15; VIP $30; Child 4 to 10 years $6; and under 4 are Free. At the gate on the day of the concert: General Seating A $5 General Seating B $20 and VIP $40; children the same. Your ticket will give you unlimited access throughout the day and admission to the concert that evening.

Proceeds from the Bark-N-Purr Charity event will go toward the Humane Society’s building fund for a spay and neuter clinic and pet adoption center for the Tri-county area.

Bronson FOL

The Friends of the Bronson Library will meet at the library at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 to plan activities through the summer.

Sweetheart Dance

“Because they will always be your little one...”  Treat the special princess in your life to a night out with this special sweetheart dance.

Tickets are $15 per couple/$5 per additional child.  Ticket price includes a fun night of dancing, a photo of the sweetheart and her date, hors d’oeuvres, cookies and punch. 

A photographer will be on-site to capture memories from the night, additional pictures will be available starting at $5 each.  We will be at Williston Elementary School Cafetorium on Feb. 27, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in JBE library from Eva-Jean Watson or at WES from Darlene Hopping.

Friday, March 5

Food Fest

The Bronson FFA Alumni will host its Eighth Annual Food Fest March 5 at the First Baptist Church in Bronson.

Entertainment, starring Jack Screws and the Sunday Dinner Band, begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner, featuring venison, sausage, pork, chowder, gumbo and fish with the trimmings begins at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Saturday, March 6

Pancakes and Softball

The Williston Lady Red Devil Softball team will be hosting and serving up pancakes, bacon and a drink Saturday, March 6 from 7-10 a.m. at Green Shutters Restaurant.

The cost is $5 and proceeds will be used for field maintenance and tournament costs.

AARP Safe Driving Class

Florida is a mandated State for automobile insurance, therefore, an insurance company doing business in Florida is mandated to give a discount to those completing an AARP Driver Safety Course. Contact your agent for discount amounts. Take a refresher course to earn a discount good for three years. Enlist a friend to attend with you.

Wild Hog Canoe Race

The Wild Hog Canoe/Kayak Race will be held April 17, with “Return to the Wild” paddling options April 16 for boaters to paddle down some of our most beautiful waterways.

Procceds from the event will benefit the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens.

This year there are eight classes. The 'parent/youth' class is back. For anyone wanting to sponsor the race, please see the website http://www.wildhog.wetpaint.com. This year's race promises to be the biggest yet. Earlybirds will receive a T-shirt in their size, but if you wait until the day of the race you will not be guaranteed your shirt size.

There will be plenty of food, music and entertainment for everyone. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and relax on the banks of the Waccasassa Riv

Philpot Retirement

The Williston FFA Alumni and other friends are in the early stages of planning a retirement reception for Robert Philpot.

Philpot has been an Ag Teacher at Williston High School since 1973 and is retiring at the end of this school year. The reception has been planned for Saturday, May 15 at the Williston Middle School Cafetorium from 3-6 p.m.

Farmers’ Market

The Williston Lions Club will open their Farmers’ Market Friday and Saturday through December and hold Bingo every Friday at 7 p.m.

The club’s food concession is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. There is an indoor flea market, table spaces are available.

Levy County Farmers Market has fresh produce and plants. If you have something home grown or handmade, you are encouraged to participate. Call Erv at 875-7756.
