The Florida Legisture will consider naming a portion of Williston’s Noble Avenue after Cpl. David Moss who died in the line of duty in 1988.

Williston Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday night, that if approved by the legislature this term, would designate the segment of Noble Avenue from Main Street to Hwy. 41 the David M. Moss Memorial Highway.

Moss, 31,  was gunned down July 31, 1988 by a suspected car thief behind the unused agriculture building on the Williston High School campus.

Moss fired all six shots of his .357 Magnum revolver, hitting the shooter three times and killing him.

Williston Police Chief Dennis Strow told members of the city council the honor is fitting, as Moss is only one of two Levy County law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, “paying the ultimate price to protect the city.”
