The volleyball match was about two very different teams showing up for each game Monday night at the Red Devil gym.
The Lady Indians of Chiefland started game 1 having trouble with their serves, and they seemed to be moving in slow motion. But, by the end of the match, after falling behind two games to none, these same Lady Indians seemed to find a new gear.
The Lady Red Devils of Williston took the first two games behind the play of Haley Beckham and Tori Stamper by the scores of 25-22 and 25-13. After Stamper served the Lady Red Devils to four straight points in game one, Beckham ended the game with a powerful kill shot. Beckham also added three kills in game 2 and Stamper added two kills as the Lady Red Devils held a 12-point lead for most of the game. Devin Domenico set up the shots at her setter position.
Game 3 started out with both teams playing off long volleys, as the Lady Red Devils scooted out to a 13-9 lead.
But it was the Lady Indians Taylore Fuller who turned the match around in game 3 as the talented athlete served seven straight points as Williston had trouble getting her serves back over the net.
Chiefland moved on to take game 3 with some very good ball placement shots, 25-17.
In the fourth game, the Lady Indians pulled out to a 13-7 lead as the kill shots that had been falling for the Lady Red Devils were missing their spot.
Chiefland’s Madison Rutkowski moved up to the net and played a huge game in the middle for the Lady Indians in game 4. Rutkowski took over the court with several blocks and several tips over the net as the Lady Indians doubled the score over the Lady Red Devils 20-10. Chiefland went on to win 25-13, setting up a game 5 for the match.
In the final game, it was all Rutkowski, as the Lady Indians shot out to a 9-0 lead. Following a time out called by the Lady Red Devils, they managed to score four straight points. The Lady Indians called their time out and came out to win game 5, 15-8 for the match win.
The Red Devils will end regular season play Thursday, Oct. 21, as they host Bronson.
The Indians will be idle until the District Playoffs begin on Oct. 26.
In JV action the Lady Red Devil JV took two of three from the Lady Indians, 25-16, 11-25, and 15-13. The Lady Indians were down 12-6 in game 3 before Jadah Donaldson served six straight Lady Indian points tying the game at 12-12. The Lady Devils won game three on a serve that went out of bounds, 15-13.
