Charges brought 18 months after high speed chase

Eighteen months after he led deputies on a high speed chase, Stephen Michael Troy was charged in the incident.

According to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Troy, 30, of NW 160 Ave., Williston, allegedly stole a vehicle March 20, 2008 and led deputies on a chase that sometimes reached speeds of 90-100 mph. Authorities say he refused to stop on SR 500 and Deputy Marshall Smith used stop sticks prior to Troy entering Chiefland.

Troy mnanaged to evade the stop sticks and attempted to run over Smith, the sheriff’s office said.
