Baseball bats are warming up

While this holiday season may find you returning Christmas presents, taking down decorations, or making those New Year’s resolutions (again), the WHS baseball  players, Coach Scott Hall and the Baseball Boosters have been working overtime to make their high school “field of dreams” a reality.
Many hours have already been put into making the field and surrounding areas better.  Just a few of the improvements so far include: installation of warning tracks in the outfield, in front of the dugouts, and behind home plate, re-cutting the infield and bases and  rounding to high school and college specs, rebuilding the pitcher’s mound and installing shelves in the concession stand.
Also, the boys now have a new batting “turtle”, new nets for the batting cages, new bats, and padding for the batting cages.
The boys have been jogging from the high school each day after school to help work on the field.  After a couple of hours work, they jog back to the high school.
“These boys are excited about this season.  I’m excited too and I’m ready to get on the field and start practicing,” said first year Head Coach Hall.
Some of the work in progress includes a sprinkler system, leveling the infield, and pressure washing and painting the perimeter walls.  There are many things that still need to be done to make the facility much better.  The “wish list” includes: painting the concession stand, painting the press box, obtaining a  new PA system, improving the existing locker room, and purchasing much needed lighting cans for the poles.
Most of the improvements were funded by the Williston Baseball Booster Club with proceeds from recent and ongoing fundraisers.  The teams, coaches and the boosters would like to thank everyone for their donations, participation in the golf tournament and support of our Pancake Breakfast (next one  is Jan. 14 at Green Shutters).
