BRONSON - Three suspects have been arrested after the robbery of the Capital City Bank in Bronson last Friday.

John Bernard Patterson, 43, of Pine Street in Bronson, and his daughter, Shakima Samara Patterson, 23, of Gainesville, along with his niece, Shameeka Lafaye Gorden, 26, also of Gainesville, have all been charged with bank robbery.

Patterson was not apprehended until Tuesday morning. A Marion County deputy spotted him as a passenger in a car in the Flemington area. When the deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop, the driver tried to flee but crashed the vehicle.

Patterson got out and ran. The deputy, after a warning, released his dog and Patterson was apprehended. He was treated for dog bites and released from Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala and was taken to the Marion County Jail.

During the robbery, a note was given to the teller stating that this was a robbery and no dye pack was to be included with the money. During the robbery the suspect kept his right hand in his pocket and implied that he had a weapon. The suspect counted down 5-4-3 and said he would shoot the teller, who gave the man an undisclosed amount of money.

A witness was fueling up at Tony’s Chevron and saw the suspect running west on Main street and entered a waiting vehicle described as a black SUV. The witness followed the suspect vehicle west on SR-24 at a high rate of speed and called 9-1-1.

Levy County Investigator Mike Bell responded to the bank and interviewed witnesses and the victims inside the bank. Upon reviewing the bank surveillance video it was determined that the suspect was John Patterson. Bell spoke to witness Shameeka Gorden. Gorden allegedly stated that she was standing outside the bank waiting for her cousin to arrive to open a joint bank account. Gorden stated that the suspect is not known to her but he was wearing a white hoodie jacket, sunglasses and a dark hat and was last seen running west on Main street.

The investigation led Investigators to Gainesville and contact was made with Shakima Patterson, who allegedly admitted that she drove her father, John Patterson, to Capital City Bank for the purpose of robbing the bank and Shameeka Gorden, her cousin, was a lookout during the robbery. Bell arrested Shameeka Gorden and Shakima Patterson for robbery.
