Williston officials want people to know that there is a city ordinance which requires all buildings to have numbers "plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property, whether or not mail is delivered to such building or property."

The rules say that the number must be on the front of the building, must be Arabic and not less than three inches in height and one-half inch in stroke width for residential buildings, structures or portions thereof, and at least six inches in height for all other buildings. They also have to be contrasting with the immediate background of the building.

Code enforcement personnel will be posting notices on buildings found to be in violation.
