Animal abuse policies changed

Just a little update. Thanks to the editorial you ran in the paper a few weeks back on the 18 Arabian horses rescued in Alachua County, I have received the following letter from the Sheriff's Department stating that they agree that their current policies were lacking in matters of animal abuse cases. They have confirmed that after reviewing my letters and being persistent in what transpired with these horses, they have rewritten the policy on the handling of animal abuse cases.

I just wanted to thank the people involved who cared enough to get this done in the Alachua County Sheriff's Department. I realize it is not an easy task to get policies changed and their expeding of thematter will be greatly appreciated by the next abused animal. I was wondering if Levy County and other counties need to check their policies on animal abuse laws and make some changes.

I'm sure this will help make a difference in an innocent animal's life in the future.

This Letter to the Editor section is a great way for the little people to voice our opinions. Thank you.
